CLIMATE RESILIENCE*
IN MISSOULA COUNTY
|
We build resilience by addressing both the causes and effects of climate change.
Addressing the causes enables us to lessen the effects in the future but we are already experiencing those effects today, - longer wildfire and wildfire smoke seasons, extreme summer heat, prolonged drought, spring flooding, and greater variability overall - so Climate Ready Missoula was developed as an adaptation plan. That means we are actively working with partners throughout the County to address the human, ecological, and economic effects of climate change. Climate Ready Missoula enables us to take a comprehensive approach to resilience by building on our work to address the causes of climate change by reducing carbon pollution. *Resilience = the ability of a system - whether it's a community, an ecosystem, or an economy - to anticipate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from the impacts of climate change.

COMMUNITY RESOURCES
We've developed programs and plans from strategies in Climate Ready Missoula that are aimed at providing resources and information to help community members adapt to the effects of climate change. Our implementation teams and work groups have worked together to prioritize actions since the plan's adoption in 2020 and developed the programs below which provide resources and education to community members and partners alike. These programs represent some of our progress to date and we will continue to implement the many strategies in this plan for years to come.

EXPLORE THE PLAN
|
Climate Ready Missoula identifies 29 goals and 77 strategies that we can pursue to build resilience to climate change in Missoula County. It is the result of 2 years of work and contributions from hundreds of Missoulians. This plan was adopted as an issue plan of the Missoula County Growth Policy and the City's Our Missoula: City Growth Policy 2035.
The plan also contains a community vulnerability assessment, future climate scenarios, and more detailed information on climate impacts. Click below to learn more about each of these documents and how they were developed. |
