THE PLAN

CLIMATE READY MISSOULA IS AN
ADAPTATION PLAN

That means we are working to build resilience by dealing with the effects of climate change.

What does climate change look like in Missoula?

Climate Ready Missoula is responsive to 7 key climate impacts:

1. Wildfire
2. Wildfire smoke
3. Higher temperatures
4. Flooding and wetter winters and springs
5. Drier summers and drought
6. Climate variability
7. Climate migration and population changes

Missoula county's climate is changing. While, elsewhere, our organizations are focused on emissions reduction, this plan recognizes that even if everyone in the world stopped emitting greenhouse gas emissions tomorrow our past emissions have made some climate impacts unavoidable. There is a lot we can do to manage the unavoidable and these goals and actions are a pathway forward.

We have developed 12 principles to guide the process of prioritizing and implementing the climate adaptation goals and actions that are presented in this plan.

While all of these principles should be considered with respect to each adaptation goal and action, we recognize that in some cases there will be tradeoffs among the principles.
